Just Me and My Crunchiness

I am, by far, the "crunchiest" of my friends. Fortunately, they love me anyway. They tell me I'm crazy for some of the things I do, but they agree to disagree, and we move on. I recently decided that it might be nice to find some fellow "hippie moms." I discovered a playgroup on a message board and met them at a park. They were such nice ladies, but so different from me. I didn't fit in at all. I'm not going to elaborate...I don't want to hurt feelings. It was disappointing. Surely there must be other moms out there with an interest in preserving the planet and peaceful parenting that are....well...normal. Sigh.

I'm really not sure where this post is going. Just wanted to reach out to others feeling this way I guess. Be proud of your choices. Don't let others make you feel nuts. Appreciate your friends for thinking you're nuts and loving you anyway. Return the favor by not being critical of the things they do differently.

Anyhoo... That's the end of this rambling post.

Yeah.... my little "daisy tip toeing" Friend.

Glad you love me anyway--- I do sometimes stomp in those same daisies....

Hey-- my little "reduce" tip....

For those of us moms that buy a TON of Juice, buy frozen and re-use your plastic bottles, or pitchers. MUCH less plastic used to make those frozen cans!

Hey, I have been meaning to tell you my 'reuse' tip!!

used tea grounds= fertilizer for azaleas. The acidity of the tea is excellent for the acidic soil loving azaleas!

And just remember, I had a higher granola score than you on the "How Crunchy Are You" quiz. You aren't alone. I'll be a babywearing freak with you. Drink the Kool Aid, it's tasty!

See, you still need us ever-so-slightly crunchy friends because we're "normal"! And don't ever try to replace us again! j/k

Out of curiosity, Renee, what seemed so odd about the folks you met with? Was it just that their ideas about the environment or parenting went beyond your level of crunchy, or was it something else?

Around here, crunchy is sort of the norm, but even so there are folks who always take it a step too far ;)

hey steve! i'm loving that you're here! yeah, probably one of the reasons i love your little neck of the woods so much. feels a lot like home to me. :)

i can't exactly put a finger on why i didn't mesh with the group i met. i think they were way above me on the attachment parenting scale and way below me on the eco-friendly scale. i know the two don't necessarily go hand-in-hand...just seems like they often do. anyway, just added up to a mismatch.
