These have been around for forever, but I can't imagine not having one...actually, I have two. Traditional cooking sprays contain propellants--usually propane or isobutane. There is risk of food contamination, not to mention the waste created by the cans themselves and their manufacturing process.
I keep one Misto for olive oil. That one is for spraying pans for cooking or directly on food (eg vegetables prior to roasting). The other holds vegetable oil for greasing baking pans.
Would a Misto (or two!) make your life easier and greener?

I've actually wanted a oil mister for quite some time - we were getting rid of some Pam that my father generously bought us when we'd run out (at which point we were going to get a mister...). Now that one has run out, and I just need to figure out where to get a good one.
Is it better to use vegetable oil on baking pans than olive oil?
you know, I never thought about what was in my cooking spray! Thanks for this post, I'm going to look into getting one...or two! :)
Glad you blogging again, I've missed it!

@krista- you can use olive oil for baking, but i've found its flavor is too strong.
oilive oil also has a lower smoke point, so it's not as versatile.
we had one from crate & barrel, and it got a hole or something in the pump b/c it doesn't work anymore. :(
lately I've just been using the cook's best tool - clean hands - and rubbing my baking dishes down.
This would be a great addition to our kitchen! The hubs is a little heavy handed with the olive oil and we have expensive taste when it comes to the good stuff. Nothing beats a good bottle of olive oil, homemade bread, local cheese and a bottle of wine.
I think I tried the Chefmate one at Walmart or Target and I wasn't a fan. I just received a Pampered Chef one. It's plastic but I'm wondering how it holds up. If it's no good - I'm onto this brand! It's always good to hear from a real person about certain brands. Thank you :)
I have a Pampered Chef oil sprayer that I've used for eons filled with olive oil (which I use when I need to spray pans too) and I love it. I haven't used that nasty Pam stuff in years and good riddances to it!
I bought a Misto a while back and really like it. I keep it stocked with olive oil and use it for spraying pans. But when I decided another mister with canola oil was in order, I wanted to find one with less plastic. The only option I could find was the Prepara oil mister (which I think is sold on Amazon). It does have a plastic spraying apparatus but the container is glass and it works just as well as the Misto.
@cindy- my mistos are actually stainless steel. i didn't realize they made plastic ones. thanks for sharing another alternative!
I had a Pampered Chef mister which annoyed me after a while. All that pumping.... and then it no longer worked. Perhaps it was defective. (?)
I'd love to try this one. Sorry if I missed it, but where can it be found?
I love my Misto! I've gone through two since the spray part broke on mine. Anyone else have this problem or maybe a fix?
great post, I really like it. Thanks for posting. :)
